Tripoli
The capital, largest city, and economic, political, and tourist center of Libya. It is located on a rocky hill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, and in the middle is Martyrs' Square and the Red Serail. It is known as the “Bride of the Mediterranean” and is sometimes called “Tripoli of the West” to distinguish it from Tripoli in northern Lebanon.
The site
The city of Tripoli is located in northwestern Libya, on a rocky highland overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and adjacent to the Italian coast. It is bordered to the north by the Mediterranean Sea, to the south by the Al-Suwani region, to the east it is bordered by the Tajoura region and to the west by the Janzour region.
Population
The population of Tripoli reached 941 thousand people according to estimates in 2012, and the majority of its residents work in trade and government jobs in various departments, and depend on state support through oil and gas revenues, which have contributed to the prosperity of the Libyan economy and the revitalization of the reconstruction and infrastructure development movement since the beginning of the seventies.
